Our office is based in the National Library of the Netherlands, next to The Hague Central Station.
We are looking for a Product, Data Services and Technology Director who will:
Direct the strategy and implementation of the Europeana platform: its infrastructure , its Data , its Product Development and accompanying Research & Development
As we use technology to transform the world with culture, this position is pivotal to the success of Europeana as platform for the digital cultural heritage of the museums, libraries, archives and audio-visual collections of Europe. With strategy set for the development of the front end and public facing products and services, and a strong team working on delivery against user need, more emphasis is now needed on the platform itself. Simplifying and implementing methods of data ingestion in accordance with a changing landscape. This is the primary emphasis for the next 12 months but some knowledge of search infrastructure would be useful post implementation of new data ingestion tools. As well as systems and software knowledge the ability to facilitate organisational change both internally and externally would be beneficial. Your areas of responsibility are therefore, quite broad and include: Software development and Infrastructure management, Data Partner Services, Product Development and R&D. You are the Chief Product Owner at the same time as directing the means of delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Direction of Europeana Foundation
Create and implement strategy with co Directors.
Develop and implement yearly executable Business Plans with Management Team.
Report against plans for Foundation, Network, EU and Member States.
Leverage Europeana Tech Network to deliver plans, both for advise and work.
Promote Europeana and the work of the Foundation.
Chief Product Owner
Direct the creation and delivery of the Europeana Core Platform according to the Strategic and Business Plans.
Direct the work of the Infrastructure & Software Development teams for the efficient and effective delivery of products and services.
Direct the work of the Data Partner Services teams to deliver high quality metadata and content to and from Europeana.
Direct the work of R&D to the benefit of core platform development.
Direct Product Development to ensure it is in line with Strategy and Business Plans, delivery both front-end and back-end platforms and facilitation systems.
Control Unit Budgets and allocate budget lines and responsibilities against those budgets.
Projects relating to the core platform:
Ensure delivery to and from partner projects in accordance with the Business Plan.
Ensure Europeana projects deliver according to agreed descriptions of work.
Europeana Human Resources
Recruit and manage high performing teams of professionals.
Direct the teams of Product Development, Software Development & Infrastructure, Data Partner Services and R&D.
Knowledge and Experience required
Strong understanding of web publishing combined with Agile and Scrum methodologies
Good knowledge of technical development and strategies
Proven experience in leading the development of systems – organisational and technical – for large-scale data aggregation and management
Product Development and Service Delivery background
Broad knowledge of worlds of libraries, museums and archives or of publishing
Able to represent the service and its projects at all levels of meetings
Excellent presentation skills
Financial management track record
Understanding of IPR issues related to web publishing
Team Management experience
Large Network management experience
Degree level education
Ability to travel regularly

Salary and benefits
Your monthly gross salary will be between EUR 5,590 and 6,060 (based on full-time employment)
Additionally, you will receive a (pro-rated) holiday allowance of 8% and an annual (year end, pro-rated) bonus of 8.33%.
1 year fixed term contract with possibility of extension depending on funding availability.
We offer 42.25 days holiday per year (based on full-time employment).
