Over the past six, I have had the great opportunity to teach at the Elmore Stoutt High School as a Painting and Drawing teacher as well as head the Visual Arts Department which helps me to instruct a diverse group of high school students, and as a result, I have developed highly effective teaching techniques and instructional methods which have allowed me to educate learners of all levels and ability fostering a fun and engaging learning environment that effectively teaches art appreciation, promotes creativity and encourages growing independence.
I supervise eight teachers within my department and eight hundred high school students out of a school body of fourteen hundred students that take the visual arts program every school year. I am responsible for checking teachers’ lesson plans, developing the visual arts syllabus and teaching materials, purchasing art supplies every school year, writing department reports and evaluating teachers within the department. I am also a member of the school cabinet which is made up of four principals, four guidance councilors, twelve heads of department and five year heads. We make policies that affect academics, discipline and uniform within the school.
One of my greatest strengths as an educator is meeting each student unique needs by developing a personal understanding of each one of them. I achieve this seeing, assisting and assessing my students individually tailoring my lesson plans to accommodate multiple intelligences. I also offer one- on- one after school support to students who did not grasp the concepts that was taught and to ensure they enhance their personal skills.
My gold is to increase their motivation, awareness and understands the arts.
