Full-Time Head of Philanthropy

Royal Dublin Society  County Dublin, Ireland

Art Jobs RDS Navy CYMK 1

Job Description

As a charity foundation, building on a tradition spanning three centuries, the Royal Dublin Society has a distinctive mission to inspire, enable and empower positive change in Irish society. With almost 3,000 members and home to Ireland’s best-known venue, the RDS has responded to the needs and priorities of Ireland, underpinned by five key areas including Agriculture, the Arts, Enterprise, Equestrianism and Science & Technology.

The Royal Dublin Society is proud to be Ireland’s oldest philanthropic institution, supported in all its ambitions by the RDS Foundation. With a new strategy, as we move towards 2031 and our tri-centenary, the Society is entering a new phase, contributing to Ireland’s response to the challenges of climate change, ensuring its people, in particular younger people, have skills for life as industry automates and digitalises, that our rural economy is nurtured and that we bring arts appreciation into the mainstream, so we have vibrant audiences for our artists.

The RDS is now seeking to appoint a new Head of Philanthropy. Working closely with the Chief Executive of the RDS, the Head of Philanthropy will be a member of the RDS Foundation team reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive (Head of Foundation). We are looking for an individual with extraordinary leadership skills to help build and grow our development team. The Head of Philanthropy must have a vision and commitment to the distinctive mission of the RDS to inspire, enable and empower positive change in Irish society. It is essential that the post-holder be able to translate this vision into tangible fundraising objectives, combining a passion for the Arts, Agriculture, Enterprise, Equestrianism and Science & Technology. The Head of Philanthropy must bring a strong track record in major gift fundraising and best practice in development, including the use of metrics and data to set ambitious goals, evaluate progress, and interpret success for RDS leadership and members.

An executive search exercise is being undertaken by Perrett Laver to assist the RDS and the Selection Committee. For an informal discussion about the role, please contact James Ingram (
